Why custom-engineered and prefabricated walkway covers? Because first impressions are often lasting impressions!
Imagine your excitement about visting Palm Springs, CA for the first time. Your plane just passed over the last mountain and is decending to this valley paradise. Perhaps you’re here to golf, shop or eat good food. Maybe you’re here on a business boondoggle. Who knows? Maybe you’ll befriend a movie star.
You exit the air conditioned terminal at Palm Springs International Airport and WHAM! It hits you like a ton of bricks. It’s easily over 115 degrees out there!
Now you must walk several hundred feet on an unshaded, concrete walkway. Are they kidding me? What if I accidently run into my favorite movie star at the other end of the walkway? So much for first impressions.
That’s why Gensler contacted us. The City of Palm Springs contracted this international architecture and consulting firm to change the first impressions tourists get upon arrival.
We designed, engineered, fabricated, and constructed (2) walkway covers to cool pedestrians. Each walkway cover is 115′ long and 14′ wide. There are (12) shade sail fabrics and (14) columns.
I’d show you pictures of the crane used to erect the steel, but I can’t. Funny thing, but nobody wanted tourists walking under the crane. So, we erected the steel at night after the airport closed. Good thing. It’s allot cooler in Palm Springs at midnight than at noon!
