Why have a shade canopy at the building entrance to a hospital? Imagine that you survived surgery and just checked out of the hospital. Pretty happy about this day, but you’re weak. You’re sitting in a wheelchair in the front circular drive waiting for that special person to pull up the car. “Let’s get outta here,” you’re thinking!
But, you haven’t been in the sun for a while. It should feel good to be outdoors again, but it’s awful! It’s hotter than blazes. In fact, the temperature exceeds 120 degrees coming off the concrete. Nobody gave you sunglasses. It’s bright!
That’s why Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport, CA contracted us. It gets hot in this Northern California town!
We constructed a Full Cantilever shade canopy that projects 18′ out from the columns. Cars pull up without concern of hitting the steel. This tensioned fabric shade structure covers 504 square feet. Patients now sit in cool shade in this outdoor waiting area.
While we worked at the hospital’s front entrance, dozens of staff personnel expressed pleasure that patients would now be sheltered. As a shade contractor, we could see that we made a substantial improvement to the hospital. It’s always nice to be appreciated!
We hope that patients won’t seek needless surgery just so they can wait under the shade canopy at the entrance to this hospital building.
